Glacier Lane B&B, Fox Glacier, NZ

Local Attractions

Westland National Park has an incomparably rich variety of wild forms to explore and experience. It ranges from coastline, lagoons, rivers, forest, swamps and lakes, to glaciers, snow basins and views to the highest peaks of New Zealand.

When you arrive in Fox Glacier you will have to make some decisions.

The mighty Fox Glacier is of course the main attraction in this area. There are many different ways to experience and take in the grandeur of the Glacier and its surroundings.

If you wish to have a close encounter with the glacier, where you can hear the crunch of ice under your feet, you'll need to take a Guided walk. If you’re more into capturing the bigger picture and want to see the two biggest mountains in New Zealand then I suggest doing a Scenic flight.

If you enjoy walking then you are going to love your time here. Walk amongst the giants of the rainforest. The podocarp family of trees canopy sits around 25m - 35m with the Kahiketea getting up to 60m tall.

Suggested walks in the area are: Chalet Lookout 1.5hr, Minnehaha Walk 20min, Mt Fox 5hr, Lake Matheson 1.5hr, Seal Colony 3hr and Gillespies Beach. Your hosts Tamra and Chris have walked all of these and can give you advise on them, plus we know about a few "local knowledge" walks!!!
